Its wasnt the soldiers seeking fame it was the kings who made them go to war s they could have the glory. the soliders who are known only did what they had to, not for the fame, just did it to survive. While alot of soliders so go to war seeking fame they only find what they look for, but this maybe my personal background, the guys who sacrifice all and are always on call and never get a break, they dont ask for credit, they just ask for a safer tommorow. How i see it, army wouldnt be much good if the air force wasnt there dropping bombs, and the marines wouldnt be anywhere without the navy, and vice versa. Yes we are all brothers here, and we couldnt do shit if we didnt work together.

Dude... though out history men have gone to war because traditionally it is one of the fastest ways to get ahead in society. Yes kings did it for the glory of conquest but it does not mean that they did not use it to get ahead. Also yes we are all brothers but it dont mean that we cant do stuff for our own groups cause if I have heard that many in the 41st dont even think that there is a reason for the 513th.

who cares what other ppl think, when the shit flies and your on the gorund taking cover, the onl thing that matters is the guy next to you, But we are trailing off from our original point here. Many have gone to war ro get ahead, but back when we were using sticks and swords to kill ppl, kings went to war becuase they were disgraced or they wanted to be known as a ruler. Even later when napolean took over france, or when most of the russians tzars went to war wanted to be known as great war generals. But no matter what its always soliers who are cleaning up someone's shit. And thats why we are here

But you also have to remember that back then, more people were probably drafted than enlisted. I'm sure that many did join for glory in battle, but once they were on the battlefield, I'm sure that many saw that war itself is anything but glorious, and when put in that situation, they have to do what they have to to survive, which includes making sure the man next to you survives, because the more there are of you, the better your chances are. "Glorious" is how people see you if you did your job on the battlefield and helped complete the objective as courageously, efficiently, and morally as possible while getting as many men back home as you could. At least that's how I see it. But that is the very job description of a soldier, or at least I think it should be. That's just what the soldier needs to do every day.

take a look at the best, spartans, they looked at each other as a whole and did it as a service to their country. and it worked. plus we still admire them. and use some of their tatics today.

The only glory and fame that any good Marine needs to feel is when they walk away from the smoldering battlefield, the dead bodies of there victims fallen below there feet, that salty smell of victory. THATS the only glory and fame we need.
